Following the disbandment of the technical team for the Black Stars of Ghana, the Ghana Football Association has established a five-member committee tasked with the selection of a new coach for the team in the wake of Ghana’s poor display at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON).
Ghana exited the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast after failing to advance from Group B, securing only two points from three matches. The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde in their first match and later drew 2-2 against both Mozambique and Egypt.
Following the team’s exit, the Ghana Football Association removed Head Coach Chris Hughton from his role and dissolved the technical team.
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.
The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars”
The Ghana Football Association has established a five-member committee, led by Vice President Mark Addo, as part of the new roadmap for appointing a new coach.
Ace Ankomah (Esq.), a legal practitioner and law lecturer, will serve as the Vice Chairman of the search committee. The committee includes Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Director of Coaching Education at the GFA, Opoku Nti, a Ghana football legend, and William Caesar Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as members.
The committee, consisting of five members, has a three-week deadline to present the qualifications for the next Black Stars Coach. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has specified certain criteria that need to be considered.
1.The potential Head Coach should be a proven winner in coaching Top Men’s National Team or Club Football
2.Must have a football philosophy that aligns or compliments our DNA
3.Must hold the highest football license in the world with over 15 years coaching experience
4.Proven track record in team reconstruction, organization and development of young talent
5.Proven disciplinarian, tactician, and leadership skills.
