Mohammed Amin Adam, the former Finance Minister, has stated that his administration was not involved in the collection of a 10% withholding tax on betting.
His comments come after Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson read the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, in which he announced the abolition of several taxes, including the Betting Tax and E-Levy.
The MP for Karaga, speaking at a press conference organized by the Minority, accused Ato Forson of misleading the Ghanaian public.
“Betting tax that they said they have abolished, we never collected Betting Tax. So to come and tell Ghanaians that you have abolished something that you have not implemented, is to deceive the people of Ghana.”-
This, however contradicts reports from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), which announced the implementation of the tax starting January 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the then-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), reaffirmed his pledge to scrap the contentious E-Levy and betting tax if he won the presidency in the recent general elections.
