Ghana Football Association (GFA) led by its president, Kurt Okraku has duly launched the women’s football strategy initiative to help the growth of Women’s football in Accra on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023.
The three—year strategy spanning from 2023 to 2026 will focus on six key areas including grass root football development, talent identification, marketing, sponsorship, national team enhancement, league development and education
This was developed by the technical directorate of the GFA led by Bernard Lepert, Prof. Joseph Mintah and also Ama Brobi Williams who is the leader of the women’s football desk.
In attendance was GFA president Kurt Okraku and vice president Mark Addo, others included executive council members such as Habib Attah Forson, Nana Oduro Sarfo, Anim Addo, Dr. Tony Obeng and Limford Asamoah Boadu.
In Kurt Okraku’s address during the launch ceremony, he disclosed that with the initiatives his administration is embarking on, the future of women’s football in Ghana promises to be bright.
“The future of the women’s game looks even more convincing than we have had, the new season which is not too far away from us will see Ghana football Association (GFA) continue with our strategy in supporting women’s football with all the support that you do deserve. Indeed, the future of women’s football looks bright. The FA has made proposals for increase representations at the highest level of governance of football in this country for women. Currently we have one lady a 16 year-old Hajia Hotu Hatah sitting on the executive committee of the FA, The proposals of the Exco is that, that slot must be increased to 2 with one slot reserved for the Football Association”
Also present at the launching ceremony was director general of the national sports authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi who delivered the key note address on behalf of Ghana’s chief of staff, Akosua Frema Opare touched on the relevance of the initiative to women’s football.
“This strategy is not just about football is about breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes and empowering women to excel in all areas of life. It is about providing female athletes with the opportunities they deserve and the recognition they have and together we can give future awarding groups, the gender does not limit potential where dreams are not bound by social norms and women’s football takes its rightful position among greats of the beautiful game,” Prof. Peter Twumasi said.
He further lauded the Kurt Okraku led administration for embarking on such initiative to promote women’s football in Ghana.
“I commend the Ghana football association (GFA) president Mr Kurt Okraku for their tireless efforts in recognizing the need for a comprehensive strategy to advance and empower our female athletes and also the fact that you have seen it fit to establish the office of the head of women’s football development under the technical directorate of your administration,” he added.
