The Media Officer of the Black Queens, Matilda Dimedo, has indicated that Ghana’s senior women’s national football team is fully prepared ahead of their crucial encounter with Egypt in the  first leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

The match is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 4 p.m. at the Suez Canal Stadium in Egypt, where Ghana will be hoping to secure a positive result before the return leg in Accra on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Matilda Dimedo expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stressing that the squad’s cohesion and experience give them a strong advantage going into the tie.

“I think the team is ever ready. Even from our performance in the just-ended WAFCON, you could see how well we played. Most of the girls have been very active with their clubs during the break, and those who joined us recently came straight from competitive games,” she said.

She added that most of the players who clinched bronze at the previous WAFCON remain in the current squad, with just a few fresh additions.

“In the core of the team, we still have most of the players from the previous WAFCON. Only about two or three new players have joined. The teamwork has always been there — they know themselves already, and with just a few training sessions, everything is falling into place,” she explained.

While acknowledging the strength of their North African opponents, she maintained that the Black Queens are determined to overcome the challenge and progress to the next stage of the qualifiers.

“We are not underestimating Egypt. We know they are a good side — North African teams are always compact and determined. But judging from the players we have available, I can confidently say we are ready to dismantle this task and qualify for the next WAFCON,” she concluded.

The Black Queens will aim to build on their recent momentum and deliver a strong away performance as they pursue qualification for the 2026 WAFCON.
