GFA appoints Swedish tactician Kim Lars Björkegren as new Black Queens head coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revamped the technical team of the senior national female team, the Black Queens. Former boss, Hauptle’s tenure with the Black Queens concluded when her contract expired on December 31, 2024. Following her departure from Ghana, she has taken on a new challenge, signing a two-year deal to become the head coach of Zambia’s Women’s National Team.

Swede Kim Lars Bjorkegren has now been appointed as the new Head Coach. He will therefore be supported by Coach Charles Sampson as the first Assistant Coach and Anita Wiredu as the second Assistant Coach.

Nassamu Yakubu will serve as the Goalkeepers Coach, with Enoch Jordan Daitey taking on the role of Athletic Coach.

The medical team will be headed by Kate Boachie-Agyemang, with Team Nurse Asinawu Abubakari assisting her. Margaret Foli has been named the team’s Physiotherapist.

Drucilia Arthur will act as the Welfare Manager, while Patience Nana A. Quarshie and Adwoa Bayor will serve as Equipment Officers.

Ronnie Bergdahl, an experienced video analyst, will provide technical support to the team in his role as Video Analyst.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the GFA on Tuesday, January 14, confirming the Swedish coach’s appointment to lead the team into a new chapter.

“Swedish Football Coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has been appointed new Head Coach of the Senior National Female team, the Black Queens. He replaces Coach Nora Hauptle , GFA appoints Swedish tactician Kim Lars Björkegren as new Black Queens head coach, whose contract with the GFA expired at the end of December 2024,” the statement read.

The GFA is confident that Coach Bjorkegren and his team will bring the expertise needed for the Black Queens to succeed in upcoming international competitions.
