The Ghana Football Association has announced that Black Stars’ manager Chris Hughton has been fired with immediate effect.

Chris Hughton led the senior national soccer team to the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations, hosted by Ivory Coast, but things fell through the tracks as the Black Stars recorded 2 draws and 1 loss at the tournament.

The poor showing at the tournament informed the decision of the football governing body to dismiss the Irish gaffer.

In a press release by GFA Communications on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, it stated that

“Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect.”

The GFA further emphasized that it has decided to disband the technical staff of the Black Stars.

“The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.”

The GFA, however, concluded that there are plans to unveil a pathway for the team’s future endeavors.

“The Ghana Football Association will, in the coming days, provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”

Chris Hughton becomes the fifth coach to be sacked under Kurt Okraku’s administration.
