The Electricity Company of Ghana is set to release a schedule on power outage in some parts of the country.
This was made known in a statement released by the Ministry of Energy on 29th March, 2023, informing the general public on the shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant.
Per the statement, the shutdown is part of a maintenance programme by the Ghana Gas Company Limited which started on the 25th of March, 2023, and is expected to last for 14 days.
“The shutdown will affect gas supply to some power plants and will ultimately result in interruption of power supply to some consumers. In the circumstance, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will shortly release a schedule to this effect.”
The maintenance programme aims to ensure the reliability of the gas processing plant and transmission infrastructure as part of the Ministry’s ‘Dum Siesie’ programme to achieve reliable power supply to consumers.
The Ministry went to assure the general public on its engagement with stakeholders to mitigate any form of inconvenience caused by the exercise.
“Consistent with the ‘Dum Siesie’ programme of ensuring reliable power supply through robust and necessary maintenance activities, the Ministry wishes to assure the general public that the Ministry is actively working with all stakeholders to ensure that any adverse effects of this exercise is mitigated.”
The statement also revealed that there will be procurement of additional gas from Nigeria to manage the impact of the shutdown on consumers.
“Government is procuring additional gas from Nigeria, Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and Light Crude Oil (LCO) to complement available domestic gas for power generation.”
