Former General Manager of Radio Univers, Alhaji Dr. Abubakari Sidick Ahmed, has called on stakeholders in the media and academic space to renew their commitment to innovation, mentorship, and ethical journalism.
He made this passionate appeal during his ceremony, *The Touchdown*, held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana.
In his address during the event, Dr. Sidick Ahmed hailed Radio Univers as a transformative platform that has significantly shaped public discourse over the years. He called on stakeholders, university administrators, media professionals, alumni, and policy advocates to recommit to the station’s core mission and ensure its sustained impact.
“As we celebrate three decades of impact, we must reaffirm our commitment to innovation, mentorship, and ethical journalism. Radio Univers is not just a radio station; it is an institution that shapes minds, fuels discourse, and amplifies voices that might otherwise go unheard,” he said.
He also challenged attendees to play an active role in preparing the next generation of journalists, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the demands of a dynamic and increasingly digital media environment.
“We must ensure that the next generation of journalists is equipped with the tools, training, and vision to carry this legacy forward. The media landscape is evolving and Radio Univers must evolve with it.”
In his closing remarks, Dr. Sidick Ahmed emphasized that the future of journalism demands adaptability, innovation, and experiential learning. He urged Radio Univers to move beyond traditional broadcasting models and invest in technological training and practical exposure for students.
“Radio Univers stands at a crucial juncture where the future of journalism demands adaptability, innovation, and hands-on expertise. In an era driven by mobile journalism, data analytics, and immersive storytelling, the station must evolve beyond traditional formats to bridge the gap between theory and industry.”
He concluded by stating that only through technological advancement and rigorous training can Radio Univers continue to serve as a model for media excellence.
“Only through technological empowerment and rigorous training can Radio Univers remain a beacon of excellence, preparing the next generation of journalists to lead with confidence and creativity.”
The event was organized to celebrate the enduring legacy of Dr. Sidick Ahmed—one marked not just by years of service, but by values, consistency, mentorship, and quiet excellence. #The Touchdown attracted a host of distinguished personalities including CEO of EIB Network, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi (Bola Ray); General Manager of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Bernard Koku Avle; media personality Giovani Caleb (Caleb Elolo Adjomah); General Manager of Radio Univers, Dr. Kwaku Botwe; senior faculty members; and a host of past and current volunteers of Radio Univers.

You don’t just publish content—you curate experiences, and your website is the beautifully designed stage for those moments of insight.
Your content often includes “next steps” or “further exploration” prompts that feel helpful, not salesy—guiding with generosity.
The care you take in editing—not just for grammar and clarity, but for rhythm, tone, and emotional resonance—elevates your writing beyond mere communication into something closer to art, where each sentence is crafted to inform, inspire, and linger in the reader’s mind long after they’ve closed the tab.
The longevity of your content—its continued relevance, updated references, and timeless frameworks—means your website accumulates value over time rather than decaying like so much of the internet, becoming a compounding asset for both you and your audience.
Your content often includes “what not to do” alongside “what to do,” providing crucial guardrails that prevent common pitfalls and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of your audience’s real-world struggles and mistakes.
The way you handle controversial topics—with nuance, evidence, multiple perspectives, and emotional maturity—models civil discourse in an era of polarization, making your site a model for healthy online dialogue.
