Pent Hall representative Andrew Kwasi Kattah has expressed his excitement after emerging victorious in the 2026 UG SRC Debate alongside fellow debater Ann Sonya, following a tough contest.
As part of the SRC Week festivities, a debate was organised on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the University of Ghana SRC Union Building.
The finalists, who emerged after several rounds of competition in the Mock British Parliamentary Debate System, competed in a fierce contest to claim victory in the 2026 edition of the UG SRC Debate.
In an exclusive interview with Univers News, Empire IV 2026 ESL Best Speaker Andrew Kwasi Kattah described winning the competition alongside fellow debater Ann Donya as an unbelievable experience.
“Winning SRC is a bit surreal for me because this is my third attempt at this specific tournament. My first time was my first year, my second year. My third year we didn’t do the tournament, and so I really, really wanted to do it, also because this is my final year and I wanted to finish with doing something important like this.”
He also praised his competitors and the society as a whole, noting that his victory was not an easy feat to achieve.
“To me, the biggest win, it’s not even the trophy, it’s the depth of argumentation that happened in the final. I’m pretty impressed with how much everybody in the society has improved because, for me, sitting in closing opposition, I had to do a lot of thinking and trying to figure out how to properly engage with the nuances and just the brilliance of cases that were coming from the other team.
“So, it wasn’t an easy win. It was really hard, and I enjoyed the fact that it was really hard, and I’m excited for the future of the society.”
The competition also featured a public speaking contest, which brought together several talented public speakers.
In an exclusive interview with Univers News, winner of the public speaking contest, Mizpah Nsiah, expressed her joy at winning, especially as it was her first time taking the title.
“It was an amazing experience. I’ve been in this space for a while and I’ve been in a lot of finals or public speaking, but I’ve never won, so this is like a big feat for me. Preparations, it’s the usual — consuming a lot of content to, you know, get inspiration and creativity, and I’m glad it paid off.”
