On Friday, June 6, 2025, the University of Ghana community, together with former volunteers of Ghana’s first campus-based radio station, gathered to celebrate the lasting legacy of Alhaji Dr Abubakar Sidick Ahmed, former manager of Radio Univers.
The event was graced by prominent personalities, including Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah, Emeritus Professor Kwesi Yankah, Professor Clifford Nii Boi Tagoe, Professor Kwame Karikari, Professor Audrey Gadzekpo, and Supreme Court Justice Henrietta Joy Abena Nyarko Mensa-Bonsu. Also in attendance was Professor Abena Animwaa Yeboah-Banin, Chairperson of the University Media Management Committee.
Distinguished members of Ghana’s media industry joined the celebration, including veteran media professionals and former Radio Univers volunteers who are now thriving in various sectors of the industry, as well as current volunteers climbing their way up in the media space.
The event was described as heartfelt and memorable; a true recognition of Dr Sidick Ahmed’s remarkable contributions.
In all the tributes dedicated to him, Dr Sidick Ahmed was widely praised for his dedication to training, mentoring, and creating opportunities for generations of students. Many of those he mentored have gone on to become influential voices in Ghana’s media landscape, a legacy that continues to inspire.
