Immediate past General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Julius Kwame Anthony has opined that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia got hooted at Hogbetsotso over untruthfulness and insensitivity of his staff.
According to him, staff from the public relations unit of the office of the vice president deceived him and failed to utter the truth.
Anthony Julius believes that the assistants failed to prompt Dr. Bawumia with needed rectifications as he describes the socioeconomic situation in the country as ‘getting bad.’
“One problem we are creating for our leaders is that, special aides, staffs deceive them. They tell them ‘the people who were hooting at you are NDC people and they were bussed by John Mahama from Accra to wait for you at Hogbetsotso and hoot at you’. Instead of telling them the truth that, ‘it seems things are getting bad, and we need to work’. People who were supposed to just whisper the truth, ‘boss please we need to rectify this’, they don’t do it” He said.
Anthony Julius, hence, admonished staff at the office of the vice president to cease deceiving him.
Speaking on the morning show of MX24 TV, he added that insensitivity on the part of the Vice president’s public relations officers landed him in trouble at the 60th Hogbetsotso festival.
He explained Dr. Bawumia’s speech should have rather been centered around messages of unity, and cultural heritage instead of touting achievements from the digitalization drive and other governmental projects.
“You must work on his PR. I am sure that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia went there with special entourage, with Anlo people so that they will be able to [translate utterances] he doesn’t understand,” Anthony Julius urged the public relations department.
Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia was at the receiving end of jeers at Anlo during his address at the Hogbetsotso Za festival in the Volta Region on Saturday, November 5.
In the speech, he touted the importance of the Anlo state to the development of the country.
But the teeming crowd did not stay silent when he began to enumerate the government’s achievements despite the prevailing hardship.
