Ghana’s U23 National Team, The Black Meteors on Sunday secured a spot in the final qualifying phase of the TotalEnergies CAF U23 Championship after beating their Mozambican rivals by 2-0.

The West African giants prevailed over their Southern African counterparts on a 4-1 aggregate scoreline. An impressive first leg 1-2 win in Maputo on 23rd October set the tempo for a crunching second leg tie in Kumasi.

The Meteors side coached by the experienced gaffer Ibrahim Tanko made light work of their opponents at the Babayara Sports Stadium. A goal in each half of the game confirmed Ghana’s dominance over the two legged affair.
Dreams FC’s Sylvester Simba opened the scoring in the first half with a screamer before Accra Hearts of Oak’s dependable forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh calmly converted from the spot to double the home side’s advantage.

The final qualifying stage will kickoff in March 2023 with the Black Meteors squaring off against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ghana will travel away for the first leg before hosting the Congolese team in the return encounter.
