President of Volta Region Students Association of the University of Ghana (VORSA-UG), Slyvester Mawuli Soglo has appealed to the University of Ghana management to extend deadlines for academic and hall registrations which are set for October 27.
His appeal is backed by the numerous pleas from the university’s students who reside in areas affected by the floods asking for help to return to school.
The flood was a result of the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams which has left many people displaced with several properties lost .
During an interview on Campus Exclusive, he mentioned some of the concerns of the affected students, speaking about their inability to raise enough funds to make payments for the academic and hall fees as the floods have affected their source of livelihood.
“Some students who have not reported already have complained that they are unable to get enough funds to settle academic and residential fees. Some reported that they have lost all their belongings causing them to spend all their money on items to sustain them for the period.”
“Some students who live in Mempe and its environs have been called by their parents to return home to help them gather their belongings that have not been washed away, despite the levels of flood waters.”
The President announced that a press release from his quarters shoild be expected in the coming days. He assured that he will personally visit hall management to speak to them on behalf of the affected students.
