Some prospective students of the University of Ghana’s College of Health Sciences have appealed to the University to consider their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results alongside their performance in the College’s entrance examination when making final admission decisions.
The appeal follows the computer-based entrance examination held from Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 8, 2026, as part of the admission process for prospective students seeking to enter the College’s various health-related programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Speaking to Univers News after the examination, some candidates described difficulties ranging from locating examination centres to managing the time allocated for the test.
One candidate said the challenges varied from person to person.
“Some of us had problems locating the venue, but others didn’t. The timer was also a problem for some of us. Everyone had their own problems,” the candidate said.
Another applicant appealed to the University to take a broader approach in assessing candidates by considering their WASSCE results in addition to their entrance examination performance.
“We are appealing to the university to also consider our WASSCE results when making final admission decisions. However, we remain optimistic about gaining admission to the University of Ghana,” the applicant said.
The College introduced the entrance examination in 2025 as part of its admissions requirements for prospective applicants to its various health-related programmes.
The examination was conducted ahead of the release of the 2026 WASSCE results, leaving applicants awaiting both their secondary school results and the University’s final admission decisions.
