The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that the values of moral uprightness and ethical conduct are essential to Ghana’s development across all sectors.
He made the remarks at the Ghana Business Conclave organised by University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Delivering the keynote address, the King stressed that activities within both the business and national landscape must be guided by honesty, fairness and moral discipline rather than personal interests and biases that hinder national progress.
“As a nation, we must endeavour to imbibe the virtues of honesty, fairness, and ethical conduct in all dealings, whether at the business or governance levels,” he said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II further noted that the age-old traditions and customs underpinning traditional authority must be integrated into aspects of national life where challenges are likely to arise, particularly in politics and business, to ensure long-term stability and progress.
“Traditional leadership has been a key feature of our national identity for centuries, and it is instructive to note that we can inculcate the valuable customs and traditions of the institution into aspects of national life, particularly in thorny areas such as political and social conflicts, which have profound implications for the peace and security of our dear nation,” he stated.
He added that he has personally used indigenous customs and traditional pronouncements to resolve disputes and unite feuding factions in different parts of the country.
“In my own small way, I have been able to use those indigenous customs and pronouncements to bring together feuding factions not only within the Asante Kingdom, but also in other areas where disputes threatened to disrupt the enviable peace and stability Ghana has enjoyed throughout its history,” he added.
Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, praised the Asantehene’s achievements in his 27-year reign, describing him as a shining example of exemplary leadership in Ghana and across the world.
The university later honoured the revered traditional leader with a citation and an artwork in recognition of his achievements and contributions both locally and internationally.
