Ghana has secured qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing following a strong showing at the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Botswana on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The men’s 4x100m relay team initially finished fourth in their heat on Day One, missing out on automatic qualification after clocking a time of 38.19.
However, the team including Edwin Gadayi, Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati and Saminu Abdul Rasheed returned in the repechage round and delivered an improved performance, finishing second behind China in a time of 38.09 seconds to secure their place at the global championships.
Their earlier run had seen them post a time slightly outside the automatic qualification spots, forcing them into the do-or-die repechage round.
Ghana’s qualification highlights the steady progress of the relay team, which is currently ranked fourth in the world and emerging as a strong contender on the global stage.
The 2027 World Athletics Championships are scheduled to take place from September 11 to September 19, 2027, where Ghana will be aiming to translate its growing consistency into a podium finish.
With qualification now secured, focus will shift to preparations as the team looks to refine its performance ahead of the championships in Beijing.
