The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has marked its 20th anniversary at a colourful ceremony held in Accra.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Energy, John Jinapor, who also served as Chairman for the occasion, stated that the time had come for the NPA to embrace innovation and technology in order to stay ahead as a regulator in Ghana’s ever-demanding petroleum sector.

“As part of the next phase of growth, the NPA must fully embrace digitisation and innovation, as records have shown, so as not to get lost in the scheme of things. In recent times, industry players across many fields worldwide seem to be staying ahead of state regulators, and this strategic objective will be imbibed into the Authority’s operations with the active support of government through the Ministry of Energy,” he said.

Mr Jinapor further added that the work of the NPA is critical to the national economy and assured that government would take all necessary steps to resource and position the Authority to enable it to effectively deliver on its mandate without fail.

“The NPA is a very critical cog in Ghana’s economic transformation, given the role it plays in the downstream sector, which drives the movement of almost all industries and commerce across the board. The John Mahama-led government values the work of the regulator and, as such, is committed to retooling and equipping the Authority with both the human resources and liquidity needed to stay ahead of all stakeholders in this complex industry,” he noted.

The ceremony, held at the plush offices of the National Petroleum Authority in Dzorwulu, brought together former management members, pioneering staff, downstream and upstream industry players, related government agencies, journalists, invited guests, and members of the general public.

The event was climaxed with the cutting of the 20th anniversary cake and the unveiling of the anniversary logo by the Chairman for the occasion, John Jinapor, together with past and current senior executives of the Authority.
