The committee set up by President John Dramani Mahama to look into the petitions brought against the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo is scheduled to begin its sittings on the matter today, May 15.
In a press release signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu indicated that the 5 member committee chaired by Supreme Court Judge, His Lordship Gabriel Pwamang will sit three times a week during the assigned period and submit its recommendations upon completion to the President for final determination and implementation.
The five member committee was set up after the receipt of the petitions which were subsequently forwarded to the Council of State for advice in line with the dictates of the 1992 Constitution where a prima facie case was determined against the Chief Justice leading to her suspension by the President.
The committee was also set up in line with Article 146(6) which stipulates the procedures to follow once a prima facie case is found against the Chief Justice in any case.
The Chief Justice is currently under investigations following a total of 5 petitions received from private persons alleging ethical breaches and misconduct involving her office.
