Ghanaian award-winning singer Asiama, born Emmanuel Asiama Mensah, has reiterated that listening to his music is the best introduction to himself to those who do not know him.

Asiama is the reigning Best Male Vocalist of the Year from the recently concluded 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). He clinched the title for Best Male Vocal Performance award with his debut track, “Akoma,” which was released on May 9, 2025.

His comments come amidst ongoing public conversations regarding who Asiama is, with many people questioning the identity and background of the reigning best male vocalist.

Speaking on the At the DJ’s Mercy show on Radio Univers , he stated that there is a reason “Akoma” won that category, and that listening to the song will clear all doubts about why he took home the plaque.

“I asked myself how I could best introduce myself to those who don’t know me, and I think the only way is for them to listen to my songs,” he said.

He further broke down the composition of “Akoma,” explaining that the track came about when he faced a challenge while trying to complete a different song he was writing.

“’Akoma’ came when I was writing a different song and struggling with it. God gave me a new song out of that struggle, and afterwards, I was able to complete it.”

“Akoma” is a prayerful song that cries out to God and casts all cares on Him, reflecting the belief that He is faithful and able to fulfil His purpose.

The soulful Highlife award-winning track serves as his debut single, yielding his first nomination and his first major win, marking a phenomenal start to his career as a singer.

Asiama’s story depicts how hard work pays off, as the song was released on May 9, 2025, and went on to win him the Best Male Vocalist of the Year award exactly one year later, on May 9, 2026.

He is currently promoting his new single, “CONFYDANCE” featuring Carllo Yaboy, which is available on all music distribution platforms.
