Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has appointed Professor Christian Agyare as the next Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment follows his approval at the University’s 292nd Governing Council meeting held on May 13, 2026.
Prof. Agyare becomes the 13th occupant of the University’s highest administrative office since the institution was established in 1951.
He succeeds Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment marks a major milestone in Prof. Agyare’s career, which spans more than two decades in research, teaching, and administrative service at KNUST.
Prof. Agyare currently serves as Provost of the College of Health Sciences at KNUST and is widely recognised for his work in pharmaceutical microbiology both locally and internationally, particularly in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, ethnopharmacology, wound healing, and anticancer drug discovery.
Through his research activities, he has secured more than US$11 million in funding from international organisations, including the German Research Foundation, German Academic Exchange Service, Mastercard Foundation, and the World Bank, to support collaborative research and institutional capacity-building initiatives at KNUST.
His tenure officially begins on August 1, 2026, when he takes over from the incumbent Vice-Chancellor to continue the University’s upward trajectory in promoting world-class teaching, learning, and innovation.
