The University of Ghana, through its Office of the Registrar, has clarified issues surrounding fees for the 2025/2026 academic year, stating that it has not increased Academic Facility User Fees (AFUF), which have remained unchanged since the 2023/2024 academic year.

Management made this clarification in a statement dated January 15, 2026, and issued to media houses, titled “Statement by the University of Ghana on Approved Fees and GTEC Directives.”

“We reiterate that the University of Ghana has not increased Academic Facility User Fees for the 2025/2026 academic year. The AFUF remains at the level charged since the 2023/2024 academic year,” the statement emphasised.

The University further explained that adjustments within the current fee structure resulted from student-led recommendations following engagements and advocacy by recognised student bodies, including the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG).

“Changes in components of the current fee structure arose from student-introduced recommendations following engagements and advocacy by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG). These student-introduced charges, meant to cover specific levies and dues, were approved by Council after going through the prescribed processes,” the statement explained.

Addressing public concerns over the 75th Anniversary Levy, the University clarified that it is not a new fee, but was introduced in 2023 to support the construction of a multipurpose Student Experience Centre as part of its legacy projects.

“We wish to place on record that the 75th Anniversary Levy is not a new line item. This contribution supports an ongoing legacy project—the multipurpose Student Experience Centre—which was initiated during the University’s 75th anniversary in 2023. The project aims to enhance facilities and services to improve the student experience for current and future generations,” the statement added.

The University concluded by assuring students, parents, guardians, and the general public of its commitment to transparency, stakeholder engagement, and statutory compliance.

“UG appreciates the understanding and cooperation of students, parents/guardians, and the public as engagements continue to ensure outcomes that balance student interests, quality teaching and learning, and institutional responsibilities,” the statement concluded.
