Some students of the University of Ghana have expressed their displeasure over comments made by Ghanaian actor Big Akwes about musician Cina Soul on Max TV’s Max Morning Show.
During the April 1, 2025 episode of the show, Big Akwes who was a Guest on the show made remarks about Cina Soul’s body and outfit while discussing a viral video of the singer dancing to ‘Larger than Life’ featuring Stonebwoy from her latest album, ‘Did I Lie.’ His comments sparked widespread criticism, with many calling them disrespectful and unnecessary.
Speaking to Univers Entertainment, most students strongly condemned Big Akwes’ remarks, describing them as inappropriate and unwarranted. They emphasized the need for media personalities and public figures to be more mindful of their words, especially when discussing women in the entertainment industry.
One level 100 female shared,
“She is a human being and everyone has a right to what they want to do and what they want to wear so I think they didn’t do well on their part. And we should know that this is the music industry so whatever they do, they are doing it for their fans. “
Also, another male level 100 student shared:
“Big Akwes didn’t play his part well. He doesn’t have to disrespect Cina Soul. He has to apologize”
Another Level 100 male student also shared:
“Even though maybe she might have had parents who gave her the proper training at home, it still isn’t right for him to have said that. For some, as they leave home, they are compelled to drift away from the training you were given at home. Women are compelled to dress more indecently because they use their body as a source of advertisement, so maybe on the side of the women, I will say it is unfair.”
Meanwhile, Max TV has since issued an apology through the host of the Max Morning Show, acknowledging that the discussion became too personal. The host, on behalf of the station’s management, extended a formal apology to Cina Soul and viewers.
The controversy has reignited conversations about body shaming and the treatment of female entertainers in the Ghanaian media space.
