The University of Ghana (UG) has inaugurated a 13-member Strategic Planning Committee to develop a new strategic plan for the university. The committee is tasked with developing a new strategic plan for the university, covering the period of 2024-2029. This move follows the university’s current 10-year strategic plan (2014-2024) coming to an end soon.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, said that it was crucial to review what had been achieved under the current strategic plan before developing a new one.
The committee is expected to facilitate the development of a new plan that aligns with the university’s vision of becoming a world-class research-intensive university and also develop a new plan that will factor in innovation, research, teaching, learning, and community engagement.
The University of Ghana has a long history of strategic planning. The current 10-year strategic plan, which is coming to an end soon, was developed under nine strategic priorities . These priorities included research, teaching and learning, internal and external stakeholder engagement, gender and diversity, institutional processes, financial performance, asset management, and monitoring and evaluation. The university’s achievements under these priorities will be reviewed by the new committee as it embarks on developing the new strategic plan.
The university hopes that the new strategic plan will build on the successes of the current plan and position the university as a leading institution in Africa and beyond.
