Former aspirant from the 2023 UGSRC presidential elections, Raman Yussif has strongly criticized the conduct of the current chairman of the UGSRC Electoral Commission, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim, for disrespecting the Dean of Students by walking out on her.

According to Yussif, the EC’s conduct follows a precedent set by Management, which ignored several complaints made by aspirants during the last elections. He argues that the current electoral flaws and instances of disrespect are manifestations of last year’s issues and for that, the EC is not fit for purpose.

“It is quite unfortunate that the measures Management is putting in place now couldn’t even be implemented during the last 2023 elections after we complained about the conduct of this EC, who was also in charge last year. The only person who spoke up for us was the Vice Dean, who always said that the EC’s conduct was more like ‘mafiarism’ and that he should allow us to contest the elections by conducting a new vetting. When we went into a meeting after the EC had disqualified us, I was not even allowed into the meeting. These are things of the past, but I have always maintained that the EC is not fit for purpose,” Yussif recalled.

Yussif further criticized the EC for walking out on the Dean of Students during recent discussions, contrasting this with his own experience in last year’s elections. Despite spending GHS92k on his campaign, Yussif did not walk out on the dean after wrongfully being disqualified.

“Even during our process, when there were a lot of wrongs and emotions, we didn’t walk out on the Dean of Students. I wasted about GHS92k before the EC wrongfully disqualified me and others from the election, but I didn’t disrespect the Dean.”

Yussif and fellow former aspirant Aki Ola plan to petition the Judicial Board to seek the removal of Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim from his position as Electoral Commissioner. They argue that his actions, as revealed in the leaked tape, undermine the credibility of the electoral process and make him unfit for the role.
