Officials of the Kumasi Technical University have dismissed reports of over 2000 being expelled by the institutions due to school fees related issues.
According to official records, the affected students who could not pay their fees in time to be registered for the second semester of the 2022/2023 , have been asked to defer their courses to the next academic year.
Speaking to the media, University authorities indicated that several opportunities were made available to the students to settle the arrears in order to be fully registered for the semester but still a significant number of students failed to meet the new deadlines as well.
” University management has changed the deadline for the second semester of this academic (MAY 29) three times in order to get the affected students pay the outstanding fees and get registered in time for the end of semester exams but unfortunately , quite a number still failed to utilize the opportunities given to them by the school in collaboration with the SRC Executives to help fix the situation”.
Contrary to media reports making the rounds, the total number of student affected currently stands at 648 as compared to the 2000 figure being bandied about in town.
The decision to close the portal and get the affected students to defer their programmes of study was taken by the Vice Chancellor and not the Chancellor, Dr Kwame Addo Kuffour.
The Kumasi Technical University has toned down on its policy of withdrawal from the school for non registration of courses and rather opted for leniency , by asking the students to defer their programmes.
The current situation on campus is serene ,where normal teaching and learning activities are ongoing with more 11,ooo registered students currently taking their end of second semester exams to close out the academic year.
