Accra Hearts of Oak are set to clash with Kpando Heart of Lions in the much-anticipated 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup on Sunday, August 17, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
This annual showdown forms a key part of the Homowo festival celebrations, dedicated to fostering peace, unity, and honoring the Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State, Nii Ayi Bonte II.
Up for grabs is a prestigious trophy, along with individual awards for Best Player, Best Defender, and Best Goalkeeper.
Speaking to the media, Lead Organizer Samuel Anim Addo described the match as a symbolic celebration of peace, cultural pride, and community spirit.
He announced plans for a vibrant float procession ahead of the match to promote awareness and excitement around the event.
Mr. Addo also hinted at a star-studded entertainment lineup, revealing ongoing talks with artists such as Bukom Banku, Tinny, and King Jerry to thrill fans on the day.
“Every year, Homowo doesn’t come without football because the Gbese Mantse himself came from football before becoming king. That’s why he insists on the Homowo Cup,”- he said.
“This year, we are going to have a great competition, with the giant trophy on display & touring every corner of the country before Sunday, August 17,” – he added.
He then urged the public to turn up in numbers to support the initiative, boost tourism, and celebrate the cultural richness of the Ga people.
