Principal Library Assistant at the Department of Biochemistry Library, Baba Hamidu, who emerged winner of the 2025 Wear UG Day fashion contest, has recounted his journey to putting together his award-winning outfit.
Hamidu claimed the top spot in a fiercely competitive showdown featuring 14 talented contestants. His winning ensemble, inspired by the regal appearance of a modern Dagbon King, embodied the essence of a ruler commanding vast territories. Beyond fashion, his design was a statement of royalty, power, and cultural pride.
In an interview with Univers News, Hamidu reflected on his creative journey, attributing his success to perseverance and faith.
“I’m grateful to Almighty Allah for this opportunity. It hasn’t been an easy job — it’s been tiring yet fulfilling. This dream to exhibit my talent has existed ever since I entered the University of Ghana. I’ve always wanted to show my craft to the world, and God has been so good this day. I’m so proud to have won and deeply appreciate everyone who supported me with words of encouragement and presence. This win is for us all,” he said.
Hamidu further described the victory as a stepping stone toward achieving his dream of becoming a professional fashion designer.
“I need to show my talent, so I’m ever ready to partner with anyone who wants to sign me up,” he added.
For his outstanding performance, Hamidu received a cash prize of two thousand Ghana cedis, a certificate of recognition, and an assortment of gifts from the event’s sponsors.
