Workers of the Apatrapa Health Center in the Kwadaso Municipal of the Ashanti Region have lamented over the lack of a standby generator to supply power to the center in the absence of electricity.
The Apatrapa Health Center happens to be the 2nd biggest within the Municipal where most residents within the town and the municipality go to for healthcare assistance.
According to some of the workers, the health center has had no standby generator or power plant since its establishment for decades to support it in times of power outages.
In an interview with the media, the Principal Physician Assistant at the center, Daniel Appiah further elaborated on how midwives and other health workers are compelled to use their mobile phone lights to assist when delivering pregnant women and treating sick people at the onset of lights out.
He explained that the situation has caused a reduction in the attendance of many people at the health center.
“Here, the lights could go out for about six hours or more and since there is no power plant or standby generator, we have to switch on ours phone lights in giving healthcare. This has caused a drastic reduction in the attendance of the center though we have nice male, female and children wards with beds and experienced workers.”
Kwadaso Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Richmond Agyenim Boateng promised that the health center would gain a standby generator after current constructions on a modern theatre for the center is completed.
He however encouraged stakeholders to contribute and support the health center’s need for a standby generator.
“So for now, the assembly will soon finish constructing the theatre and then proceed to buy the power plant for the health center. But if any philanthropists or organizations could come to our aid and help get the power plant for the health center, the assembly will gladly welcome them.”
