The Golden Eaglest of Nigeria outclassed Togo by a 3-0 scoreline at the University of Ghana’s Rugby field to secure a place in the last four of the ongoing U-17 WAFU Zone B tournament.

A brace from Abdulmuiz Adekele and a Rapha Adams instinctive finish was enough for the Golden Eaglets on the day.

The game, which was rescheduled from Wednesday to Thursday due to heavy downpour, had no impact on the Golden Eaglets as Manu Garba’s charges had a field day against Togo.

Abdulmuiz Adekele, who scored a brace for Nigeria, was handed the opportunity to bag the first hat trick of the competition from the spot, but he failed to convert his kick in the 68th minute.

The victory for Nigeria puts them at the summit of group B with 7 points, advancing from the group with 2 wins and a draw.

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso also advanced from group B with a 1-0 win over Niger. The win moved Burkina to 7 points (same as Nigeria) -but had to settle for second place due to Nigeria having a superior goal difference.

The victory for both teams gives them an opportunity to battle for the ultimate, with Nigeria facing Ivory Coast in the semi-final while Burkina Faso do battle with Ghana as well.

All semi-final games are scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
