The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of several candidates who participated in the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) due to examination malpractice.
This decision follows investigations into numerous reports of irregularities during the exams. At the meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee, held on Wednesday, December 16, 2024, WAEC approved the following measures; 4,108 candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing unauthorized materials into the examination hall. 483 candidates had their entire results cancelled after being caught with mobile phones during the examination. 781 candidates had specific subject results withheld, while 209 candidates had their entire results withheld for various suspected offences. Additionally, the subject results of candidates from 319 schools have been withheld over allegations of collusion.
WAEC assured the public that investigations into these cases are ongoing. The council emphasized its commitment to a thorough review process to ensure fairness and uphold the integrity of the examination.
This decision reaffirms WAEC’s zero-tolerance policy for malpractice and its dedication to promoting a fair and credible assessment system.
