The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the provisional results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
A total of 461,736 candidates registered for the examination, representing an increase over the 2024 figure of 460,611. The Council, however, noted significant fluctuations in candidates’ performance in the four core subjects compared to previous years.
In a statement released on November 29, 2025, WAEC revealed that less than half of the candidates achieved the benchmark A1–C6 pass grade in Core Mathematics (48.73%), a sharp decline from the 66.86% recorded in 2024. Additionally, 114,872 candidates (26.77%) obtained the lowest grade, F9, in Core Mathematics.
Following investigations into reported irregularities, the Ghana Examinations Committee, at its 40th meeting, approved several stringent actions: 6,295 candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign materials into examination halls; 653 candidates had their entire results cancelled for possessing mobile phones in the examination halls; and the subject results of 908 candidates, as well as the entire results of 158 candidates, were withheld pending further investigations into various suspected offences.
Furthermore, the results of candidates from 185 schools have been withheld over alleged collusion, with investigations currently underway. WAEC is working to ensure that these results are released before the end of December 2025.
The Council also disclosed that 35 teachers were found to have engaged in acts that compromised the integrity of the examination. Nineteen of them have already been convicted by the courts and face fines or imprisonment. The remaining cases are still before the courts, and the list of implicated teachers will be submitted to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for disciplinary action.
WAEC has strongly cautioned all stakeholders to beware of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee, emphasizing that WAEC results are secured and can only be authenticated through its official results verification system.
