The Electoral Commission of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) Students’ Representative Council (SRC) has announced a temporary hold on the publication of the final certified election results following a formal petition filed by one of the presidential candidates.
According to a statement issued by the Commission on July 27, 2026, presidential candidate Pascal Senyo Gamor-Kasese submitted the petition earlier in the day, invoking Article 50(2)(a) of the UniMAC SRC Constitution.
Under Article 50(2), the Electoral Commission is constitutionally required to investigate and resolve any formal disputes arising from the election within 48 hours of the close of polls.
The petition calls for an official investigation and reconciliation into alleged ballot discrepancies reported at specific polling stations, as well as concerns over the handling of unstamped ballots during the voting process.
In a statement issued by Chairperson Angela Dzifa Gatsi, the Electoral Commission reiterated that it would not be able to declare the final results until the concerns raised in the petition had been fully addressed.
“In adherence to constitutional governance, transparency, and the rule of law, the Commission must fully resolve these raised concerns before declaring and finalizing the election results.”
The Commission also assured students and candidates that the dispute resolution process would be handled fairly.
“The Electoral Commission assures all students and candidates that this dispute resolution process will be handled with absolute fairness, speed, and integrity. Further updates will be communicated promptly upon the conclusion of our findings.”
With the 48-hour constitutional window now in effect, the student body awaits the outcome of the Commission’s review.
Until then, the final results of the SRC presidential election remain unpublished, with all eyes on the Electoral Commission as it works to resolve the petition within the constitutionally mandated timeframe.
