The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has confirmed the death of a second-year student following an incident which occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
In a press release dated February 9, 2026, the University said it received the news with deep sadness. The student, Ransford Amankwah Asomani, who was enrolled in the BSc Agribusiness Management programme, reportedly fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel in Ayeduase in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.
“According to preliminary reports, Mr Asomani fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel in Ayeduase in the early hours of Sunday, the 8th of February 2026.”
According to the statement, he was rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues, with support from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team, but was pronounced dead on arrival. His family has been informed, and the body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

University authorities indicated that the KNUST Police, in collaboration with the university security services, have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Management has urged the public to avoid speculation while inquiries are ongoing.

The University extended its condolences to the bereaved family and members of the university community, describing the development as deeply saddening. It also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of students and staff.
