#UGDecides : Don’t let your heart be troubled – Edward Owusu Boateng calms supporters after loss

Former Treasurer Candidate in this year’s University of Ghana Students Representative Council (UGSRC) elections, Edward Owusu Boateng, popularly known as ‘Gaddafi,’ has expressed gratitude to all his supporters who voted for him in the just ended elections.

Edward Owusu Boateng, who made this known in a twitter post after losing the treasurer race to his opponent, Michael Kuti asked his supporters to remain calm and keep their hope alive.

Quoting John 14: 27, Edward Owusu Boateng, told his supporters to live in peace and not worry.

I will like to leave you with this memory verse . John 14: 27. Peace I live you with, my peace I give you . I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubles and do not be afraid.

He also said he was grateful for all the support he had received from his supporters so far.

It’s been a very long and Insightful journey. I love and appreciate all your support thought out the journey is the reward. I’m glad I met all of you wonderful people along the way.

Michael Kuti won SRC Treasurer position with 7,667 votes which was 50. 3% while his contender Edward Owusu Boateng followed closely with 7062 which was 46.3%.

Students of the University of Ghana went to the polls on Tuesday, November 1 to elect new crops of executives to man the affairs of the student body.

For the General Secretary race; Diana Ohene Bemah gathered 2,612 total valid votes out of a total vote cast of 15,238 representing 17.1%. Meanwhile, Ernestina Hamdiya Mahama, Vida Minta and Emmanuella Boakye Yiadom obtained a total valid vote of 2,395 representing 15.7%, 2,865 of 18.8% and 7,146 of 47% respectively.

Due to this, the two leading candidates that are Emmanuella Boakye Yiadom and Vida Minta are expected to lock horns for the positions in a run-off.

Boakye Martin Gyasi recorded 5455 votes which represents 35.8% and Samuel Ackom obtained   3879  votes which is 25.5% in the presidential race. They are also headed for a run off since none of the five candidates obtained 50+ 1.

Curtis Owusu 3426  (22.5%), Noah Womborbi 1,565 ( 10.3%), Graham Oduro Derry 742 ( 4.9%) are out of the race since they did not come tops in the presidential race.

15, 238 students voted in this years election out of the 59, 366 expected voter turnout. This voter turn out is the highest in last four years in the history of the UG SRC election
