The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) is set to establish a television station, Legon TV, as part of efforts to provide students with hands-on training in media and broadcasting, in collaboration with GAME TV.

This initiative was announced by the 67th SRC President, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, during his first State of the SRC Address at the Fifth Sitting of the SRC General Assembly on Sunday, May 11, 2025.

According to President Yeboah, the launch of Legon TV fulfills a major campaign promise and represents a strategic partnership with GAME TV. The collaboration aims to equip students—particularly those in the School of Communication Studies—with practical experience in television production, journalism, and media management.

“Legon TV will be in collaboration with GAME TV, who will provide the necessary training required for our students.”

Legon TV is expected to serve as a dynamic learning platform, offering internship opportunities and bridging the gap between academic theory and industry practice. It will also be a space for students to create and broadcast university-focused content, showcasing campus activities and student achievements.

“The initiative will also provide internship opportunities for students as it would be a solely student-run station on campus.”

The president underscored that the station will be entirely student-run and envisioned it becoming a vital part of campus life by covering significant university events and promoting student talent beyond academics.

With the upcoming launch, the University of Ghana joins other tertiary institutions like Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), which currently operates TEK TV, a pioneer in university-based television broadcasting.

The partnership between UGSRC and GAME TV reflects the university’s broader commitment to enhancing practical training opportunities and preparing students for real-world careers in the media industry.
