‎The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) has launched this year’s edition of its “SRC Day of Giving” campaign aimed at improving student welfare and enhancing campus infrastructure.

‎This year’s marking of the day began with an official launch and fundraising event held on August 1 at the Cedi Conference Centre. The SRC is targeting Gh¢220,000 to support students with disabilities, upgrade academic facilities, and address essential student needs.

‎The event, held on August 1, 2025, under the theme “A legacy of purpose: Reflecting on the transformative student experience,” received strong backing from university leadership, including the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Rosina Kyeremateng, and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon Awandare.

‎The “SRC Day of Giving” is a flagship initiative of the current SRC administration, designed to create a sustainable platform for students and alumni to contribute meaningfully to campus development.

‎The campaign focuses on three key areas:

  • ‎Support for students with disabilities: Funds will be used to provide mobility aids such as wheelchairs and crutches, along with food supplies to ease financial burdens for students with physical disabilities.
  • ‎Secure storage during exams: The SRC plans to install lockers to help students safely store personal items during examinations, reducing stress and security concerns.
  • ‎Library renovation: Part of the funds will go toward upgrading the 24-hour library, with improvements to lighting, seating, and digital resources to enhance the learning environment.

‎The SRC Vice President, Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, intimated that the campaign is not just a fundraising effort; it is about fostering a culture of giving back and building a lasting legacy for future generations of students.

‎The “SRC Day of Giving” marks a new chapter in student leadership at the University of Ghana. By focusing on tangible, high-impact projects, the UGSRC is demonstrating its commitment to creating a more inclusive, secure, and academically enriching environment for all students. The success of this inaugural campaign will be a testament to the power of community and a beacon for future student-led initiatives aimed at positive change.
