The Electoral Commission of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) has released the official calendar for the 2025 SRC elections, marking the start of what is expected to be an active and engaging democratic season on campus.
With a focus on ensuring free, fair, transparent and credible elections, the Commission outlined a structured timeline aimed at promoting inclusivity, accountability and student participation.
The process officially began Monday, July 21, with the opening of nominations for all aspiring candidates. The nomination window will remain open through Friday, July 25, giving interested students time to submit forms and meet eligibility requirements.
On Sunday, July 27, the list of all aspirants will be publicly displayed, allowing the student body to raise any objections or seek clarifications. Vetting is scheduled for Thursday, July 31, during which all candidates will be evaluated for eligibility and readiness.
The final list of vetted candidates will be published Friday, Aug. 1. A formal engagement session between aspirants and the student body will follow on Saturday, Aug. 2, giving candidates the opportunity to present their platforms and outline their vision for student leadership.
On Sunday, Aug. 3, the Electoral Commission will meet with Electoral Commissioners from Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), academic departments and satellite campuses to ensure coordination ahead of the polls.
Balloting to determine the order of candidates on the ballot paper will be held Monday, Aug. 4. The manifesto presentation and presidential debate is set for Wednesday, Aug. 6, giving students a chance to evaluate the policies of the various contenders.
The main election is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 8. If a runoff is necessary, it will take place Friday, Aug. 15.
The Commission has indicated it will hold additional engagements with student groups and campus stakeholders to ensure a transparent and participatory process.
As the calendar unfolds, students are encouraged to remain engaged and play an active role in shaping the leadership that will represent their interests in the 2025–26 academic year.
