#UGDecides: Samuel Ackom congratulates Martin Boakye Gyasi for winning Presidential race

The presidential candidate in this year’s University of Ghana Student Representative Council (UGSRC) elections, Samuel Ackom, has conceded defeat and congratulated his close opponent in the runoff elections, Martin Gyasi, on his election as the UGSRC president-elect.
This was stated in a communiqué released from the camp of Samuel Ackom and Ramzy Fuseini after the declaration of the provisional results of the elections by the Electoral commission.
According to Samuel Ackom, he placed a phone call to the camp of Martin Gyasi and Abraham Lincoln to congratulate them for emerging victorious.

We have called Messrs Martin Gyasi Boakye and Lincoln Ohene and congratulated them for emerging victorious.

The camp of Samuel Ackom has also promised to be committed to supporting the vision of their close opponent in building a “rising SRC” for all.

We have also made intimated to them our commitment to support them in their vision to build a rising SRC for us all. We call on our supporters to support them as they take over the mantle to head our student union

In the communique, Samuel Ackom and Ramzy Fuseini also expressed their gratitude to their supporters for being supportive throughout the electioneering process and urged them to lend their support to the newly elected UGSRC president and vice president, Martin Gyasi and Abraham Lincoln, respectively, as they take over the mantle to manage the affairs of the student populace.

Students of the University of Ghana went to the polls on Tuesday, November 8 to decide who become the next SRC President, Vice President, and General Secretary for the 2022-2023 academic year after last weeks election headed for a run off.

After the close of polls, Martin Boakye Gyasi defeat Samuel Ackom to win as the SRC President with a total valid vote of 6,652 representing 56.7% as against his contender Samuel Ackom with 4,963 representing 42.3% out of a total valid vote of 11,722 with 107 (0.9%) of the abstained vote.

Meanwhile, Emmmanuella Boakye Yiadom and Micheal Kuti have also been elected as the General Secretary and Treasure of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The elections were conducted online with support from the University of Ghana Computing System for all undergraduate students.
