The University of Ghana Economics Students’ Society (UGESS) has held its annual week celebration to commemorate the importance of economics as a crucial field in the management of resources within the society.
The highlight of the week celebration was the riveting economics summit hosted by the UGESS at the ISSER Auditorium on Legon Campus to empower students navigate through the complexities of Economics as a discipline.
Bringing together some bright minds in the field, the event featured thoughts provoking discussions on the global economic trends, innovative policy situations and the future of sustainable development.
The head of the UGESS academic and research committee, Kweku Annan Aggrey- Fynn spoke about the main objective of the Economics summit, which is to provide a platform for students to engage with industry experts, thought figures and to explore latest economic trends and figures and other career paths in Economics.
He was speaking in an exclusive interview with Univers News.
“We are not just here to be spectators instead, we are here to learn, we are here to be mentored and we are here to build our social capital.”
Among the keynote speakers was Mark Yaw Addo, a CV expert and freelance writer. He spoke about the need to create a good curriculum vitae, highlighting its vitality in the job market.
“It is crucial to get certain things in one’s curriculum vitae such as the personal profile, career objective, educational qualifications, other training, language hobbies and objectives as it enriches it. One must also avoid exaggerating and lying in the CV.”
Lead consultant of Taragone limited, Dr. Genevive Duncan asked for the embracement of economics considering its great impact on the society as a whole.
“Economics is not just a mere academic framework which one must chew and pour, pass and forget but rather a good discipline which when learnt has the ability to change the economic status of the country.”
The Economics Empowerment Program succeeded in empowering individuals with the knowledge and skill needed to make sound economic decisions.
