The University of Ghana Student’s Representative Council’s Electoral Commission (UGSRC-EC) has released the vetting results of the SRC candidates whilst disqualifying some candidates from the race for presidential positions.

This was revealed in a statement released by the UGSRC-EC on 22nd July, 2023. The statement contained the vetting results of candidates who have been cleared to contest for positions in the SRC. Meanwhile, the statement also revealed that four of the candidate pairs have been disqualified for various reasons.

Aspiring presidential pair, Aki-Ola Aziz and his running mate, Kelvin Amponsah were disqualified due to Kelvin Amponsah not meeting the CGPA requirement of minimum 3.00 by the Office of Student Affairs. The Dean of Student Affairs requires that aspirants for any executive position in any official student body must have a CGPA of minimum 3.00 as a requirement. It was also for the same reason that Presidential aspirant Derrick Ampong and his running mate, Akwasi Francis were disqualified from contesting due to Akwasi Francis not meeting the CGPA requirement.

“Mr. Aki-Ola Aziz and his running mate, Mr Kelvin Amponsah Frimpong have been disqualified due to the failure of Mr Kelvin Amponsah Frimpong to satisfy the mandatory 3.00 CGPA requirement, Mr. Derrick Ampong and his running mate, Mr.  Akwasi Francis, have also been disqualified due to the failure of M0.r Akwasi Francis to satisfy the mandatory 3.00 CGPA requirement, as stipulated in Article 30, clause 1(b) of the UGSRC Constitution.”

Meanwhile, Presidential aspirants Raman Yusuf and his running mate Gideon Ofori were disqualified for their absence during the vetting of the aspirants that took place on 17th July, 2023, at the SRC Union Building. According to the EC, no reasons were given by the aspirants for their absence, hence their disqualification. This directive was also applied to presidential aspirants, Emmanuel George Fefeh and his running mate, Isaac Dekpor.

“The Vetting Committee and Electoral Commission further wish to state that two of the presidential tickets did not appear before the Vetting Committee, and as such the aspirants involved cannot hold themselves as candidates in the upcoming election. They are Mr. Raman Yusuf and running mate, Gideon Ofori, as well as Mr. Emmanuel Courage Fefeh and his running mate, Mr. Isaac Dekpor respectively.”

The statement concluded with the SRC-EC assuring stakeholders of the release of further information concerning the elections.
