Aspirants for positions in the University of Ghana Student’s Representative Council (UGSRC) in the 2023 SRC elections have passed through the vetting procedures as part of the preparations ahead of the upcoming SRC elections.
The vetting took place on Saturday 15th July at the SRC union building following the submission of nomination forms on Wednesday 12th July.
The vetting panel consisted of Mudasir Ibn Ibrahim, who is the Chairman of the vetting panel and other members including Precious Yayrah Akpah, Samuel Ackom, Hawa Ibrahim, Eugene Zato, Edem Amedormen and Awuah Sylvester.
The nature of grading for the vetting was outlined by the Electoral Commissioner(EC) Chairperson Mudasir before it’s commencement. The grading was done based;
-General knowledge 30%
-Constitutional knowledge
-Curriculum vitae arrangements grading
-Confidence
All summing up to 100%
It started with the vetting of aspiring SRC treasurers Lawrence Ofosu and Suleman Awudu followed by the various aspirant for the position of general secretary
And the presidential and vice presidential position.
Numerous questions were posed by the judges to the different aspirant ranging from names of various members of Parliament, names of some members of the university of Ghana administration and a lot others.
Some of the aspirants displayed their vast knowledge on the subjects they were questioned with some however finsing difficulties with answering some pf the questions.
However, some of the aspirants for the presidential position which include Raman Yusif and his vice president Gideon Ofori as well as Fefeh Emmanuel Courage and Isaac Dekpor, did not show up on the vetting day for no given reason.
Speaking to UniversNews, the SRC Electoral Commission Public Relations Officer, Seidu Rashid asserted that no excuse or explanation had been given by the absentees for their absence.
“The electoral board did not receive any excuse from them concerning their absence,” he said.
He further added that the electoral board is yet to decide on any implications the absent aspirans are to face.
