Some residents of the traditional halls in the University of Ghana have expressed their dissatisfaction over the additional beds that have been introduced in the main halls.
Management of the University at the beginning of the 2022/2023 academic year added additional beds to the outer layers of the traditional main halls to lessen the accommodation issues on campus.
However, this has created uncomfortability among residents of the halls.
Speaking to UniversNews, the residents lamented the inadequate space the additional bed has left in their rooms.
“We are not comfortable in the rooms as at now. Even when there were only two beds, it was a hard to move around. Now it is almost impossible to go around in a room you paid for with hard earned money. We sometimes have to be considerate to send the tables and chairs out so that the third person can move in. It is hard to cook inside, it is hard to move about. It is uncomfortable and since we don’t have a choice we may as well live with it,” a resident said.
Some residents added that due to the inadequate space in the rooms, the owners to the additional beds are forced to leave their belonging on the floor.
“The extra bed is supposed to come with a wardrobe. She [new roommate] is not having a locker, no extra facilities, some floors have kitchenette and others don’t and that is the problem and our lockers are full and she has her things on the bed and the floor,” another resident said.
Meanwhile, others have questioned how some students are still left stranded even after additional beds have been introduced in the traditional main halls.
” I want to know how they are giving the rooms out to people. Because, my non residents friends came around, and management is saying there are no beds, meanwhile there are extra beds being added. I don’t understand,” another resident added.
