The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has unveiled some modern facilities on the University of Ghana Campus for the facilitation of learning and teaching through digitalization.
These facilities include the modern IT facilities at the Staff Resource Learning Centre and modernised classrooms at the Oracca Tetteh/Larway Building and City Campus.
The project is one of three technology-driven initiatives spearheaded by Prof. Amfo, and it has been praised for its success.
During the commissioning ceremony, Prof. Amfo expressed her delight in the achievement of producing results following the launch of one of the three projects under the Digitalization Initiative.
She acknowledged the implementation committee for their support and hard work in leading the project to success.
“Before the launch I set up implementation Committee. So for the classroom modernization projects and the hotpot ones, the education committee was led by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and the one student one laptop was led by Professor Quartey, Director of ISSER. So you can see that this committee, the members chair, they have worked extremely hard and I know the Pro Vice and his team they have made countless sacrifices to see what is happening on the ground bringing up, ensuring that things are done on time and to specifications. So I will like to express my deepest appreciation to this teams.”
The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, revealed that the management of the university invested about Ghc 5.5 Million to start the project. According to him, the University hopes that the investment would lead to more innovation in the creation of a modern learning environment that will significantly enhance the learning experience of students on campus.
“ The Vice Chancellor tasked me in leading the effort to raise funds and implement this project. So the university put forward about Ghc 5.5 Million across this project. So what we did was that we used that basically as seed money to start the process and then we went on the fund raising drive where we engaged corporate bodies to offer then the opportunity group to support the modernization of one classroom one laptop and had various commitment and donations as well. Basically, we are doing this in phases, as and when we get money we reengineer the project to add more classrooms to enhance even those that we were going to do already and add more facilities.”
The University of Ghana Council Chair, Justice Sophia Akuffo also commended the university management and teams for putting up the resource structure aimed at facilitating learning among students.
“And so having a resource Centre like this and a classroom like this to ensure that everything that IT and modern technology can do to help first do the teaching and secondly do the learning that we optimize it and that the most important thing the university can provide for students and I congratulate them for this formulation to bring it into reality.”
With the newly commissioned modern IT facilities and classrooms, the University of Ghana is set to offer top-notch education to students on campus.
This initiative is also part of the university’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve the quality of education it offers. The management of the university hopes for more investment to create more innovations that will make the institution a centre of excellence in Africa and beyond.
