The University of Ghana is set to introduce an initiative, Vice-Chancellor for a Week (VC4W), which will give selected students the opportunity to shadow the Vice-Chancellor and gain firsthand experience of university leadership.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, announced the initiative during the SRC Day with the Vice-Chancellor, held at the Cedi Conference Hall on August 12, 2026, as part of activities marking the 2026 SRC Week celebration.
Prof. Appiah Amfo stated that the initiative has been approved by University management and relevant committees, with further details expected to be announced soon.
She explained that the selected students will have the opportunity to follow her through her official duties and gain insight into the responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor.
“For every year, two students, one undergraduate and one graduate student, will be chosen through whatever process is laid in place to shadow the Vice-Chancellor for a week,” she said.
Prof. Appiah Amfo added that the students will have the opportunity to observe her official duties, including accompanying her to her office of which she urged students to take advantage of the opportunity and participate in the selection process.
“And so look out for that, participate, and let’s see if you’re going to be that woman who would be shadowing the Vice-Chancellor for a week. I’m excited about it, and I hope that you’re excited,” she said.
The initiative is expected to provide students with practical exposure to university administration, leadership and decision making, while giving them a closer understanding of the responsibilities of senior university leadership.
