Some prospective students of the University of Ghana have expressed frustration with the 2025/2026 academic year admissions process.
Several applicants have visited the Academic Help Desk, which was set up by the Academic Affairs Directorate and is scheduled to operate from December 9–23, 2025, at the UG Sports Directorate premises to support prospective students with admission-related issues and challenges.
Speaking to Univers News, some applicants said they are still waiting for their admission offers due to the batch release system. Others who have already received theirs expressed disappointment, particularly after missing out on competitive science programmes such as Information Technology, Biomedical Science, and other STEM courses.
Some students raised concerns about delays in receiving their admission letters, attributing the challenges to the batch release system.
“We hope for the better because we didn’t get admission initially. We were told that the admission will be released in batches, especially with the one that I chose,” one student said.
Another prospective student mentioned that he was not offered admission, adding that the help desk advised him to consider the self-placement option.
“When they checked, I didn’t get admission, so they said they would send me a link for the self-placement.”
Despite the challenges, some students said the University of Ghana remains their top choice—citing its reputation in West Africa, recent global debate achievements, quality facilities, and the prestige associated with the UG name.
“It [UG] is a great institution, and I’ve heard a lot. I’ve read a lot about the University of Ghana—the achievements, even recently, the debate. Yeah, like Charlie, it is a university. A great institution that everyone would like to be. So I’m so grateful that very soon I’ll be at the University of Ghana. The name says it all. I don’t have much to say, but I love the school. Their policies, their education, you know, they’re number one,” another student added.
