The University of Ghana, having successfully navigated an ambitious path set out in its 2014 strategic plan, is poised to enter a new chapter of growth and innovation.

This strategic plan, which was a bold declaration of the University’s intent to become a world-class research-intensive institution, has seen the University make significant strides over the past decade. As this transformative chapter draws to a close, the University is ready to unveil its new five-year strategic plan for 2024-2029.

In 2014, the University of Ghana adopted a ten-year strategic plan with a clear vision which was to elevate itself to a world-class research-intensive university. Over the past decade, this vision has guided numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing academic programs, research capabilities, and institutional governance. Central to these achievements has been the implementation of the Academic Quality Assurance policy, which has played a critical role in maintaining and improving the standards of teaching, research, and service delivery at the University.

The Academic Quality Assurance policy emphasizes several key aspects that have been instrumental in achieving these goals. Continuous improvement is one of the cornerstones of the policy, with regular internal and external reviews ensuring that academic programs meet the highest standards of quality and relevance. Periodic self-assessments and external audits have been conducted to maintain academic excellence and ensure that the University’s programs remain competitive on a global scale.

Stakeholder engagement has also been a pivotal component of the policy; by involving students, faculty, industry partners, and other stakeholders in the quality assurance process, the University ensures that its programs are not only academically rigorous but also aligned with the needs of society. This collaborative approach has been crucial in gathering comprehensive feedback and making informed improvements to the programs offered.

Another significant aspect of the policy is the focus on the professional development of academic and administrative staff. Continuous professional development has been prioritized through regular training programs, workshops, and conferences, ensuring that the staff remains updated with the latest trends and practices in higher education. This commitment to professional growth has helped foster a highly skilled and motivated workforce dedicated to achieving the University’s strategic goals.

The policy also places a strong emphasis on fostering a culture of research and innovation. By supporting initiatives that encourage cutting-edge research, the University has been able to create an enabling environment for impactful studies. Resources have been allocated to provide the necessary infrastructure and support for researchers, contributing to the University’s reputation as a leader in research and innovation.

Ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences is another core aspect of the Academic Quality Assurance policy. Innovative teaching methods, integration of technology in education, and a rigorous, relevant curriculum have all been adopted to enhance the quality of education at the University. These measures ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges of the future.

Transparency and accountability are also promoted through the policy, with clear documentation, open communication channels, and accountability measures in place to ensure that standards are consistently met. This commitment to transparency has helped build trust among stakeholders and reinforced the University’s dedication to maintaining high academic standards.
