With exams fast approaching, some sudents have raised concerns about the state of the 24-hour reading room,
According to them, the facility is ill-equipped and unfit to support their study needs.
Sharing their concerns with Univers News, students spoke of facility’s poor condition and are calling for urgent improvements to create a more conducive environment for academic work.
“We face challenges, like faulty sockets that limit the flow of studies in the reading room. If the sockets are working, it will aid students to charge their laptops and mobile phones. Also, I think the Wi-Fi should be resolved to enhance learning in the reading room.
“The 24-Hour room needs expansion because just one floor is not enough to contain the student since there are thousands of students in the school.”
“The sockets and the lamps over here are faulty since they have been used for long, so I recommend they change it to make the place brighter because the dimmness of the light affects our vision and studies. We also have online classes and with the wifi not working I recommend that management should come and fix the Wi-Fi for us.”
“The recent situation we are facing now is people coming in, and before you realize, they’ll just take your item. I think two weeks now, I got a complaint of someone’s phone being stolen and the next day, another person also complained. When the security man came and we asked whether the CCTV cameras were working, and he said no so we plead with the authorities to help fix the cameras at the reading room to curb the issue of theft.”
“The fans are not working for a while now leading to poor ventilation in the 24-hour reading room. You have to take off your clothes to get relieved of the heat or stand for a while to feel comfartable. I recommend they fix the sockets for us and actually provide maybe seats for the tables to help us in our endeavors to study.”
