Former clerk of the University of Ghana General Assembly, (2021/22 academic year), Frimpong Sydney Debrah has disproved claims of the Student Representative Council’s (SRC) Development Board Act being unapproved.
He was speaking in an interview on Campus Exclusive.
His statement comes after two members of the GA, Rashid Seidu and Mudasir Braimah, claimed that the Act was not presented and approved by the General Assembly.
They hence petitioned for the dissolution of the development board to uphold the Act under which it was allegedly supposed to be passed.
Frimpong Sydney Debrah cleared the air by asserting that the SRC Development Board Act was indeed presented to the General Assembly and duly approved.
He recalled the procedures of the approval and passing of the act.
“I don’t understand what [Rashid Seidu] means by the [development board act] not being passed… I remember the president presented the proposal to the House. After reading it, the proposal went through the normal deliberations and subsequently, the speaker entertained the motion for the acceptance of the Act for it to be passed…I captured the passage of the act.”
The SRC Development Board is a board that was proposed by the 2021/22 academic year University of Ghana Student Representative Council President Prince Asumadu (initiating president) to the General Assembly for approval.
The main purpose of the Board is to be in charge of the special SRC Development Fund whose primary source of revenue will be a developmental levy of Ghc 100 charged to students of the university (commencing 2022/2023 academic year).
The levy is subject to increments every four years, the increment of the SRC Dues from Ghc16 to Ghc35 to generate more funds to assist and reduce the monetary burden on the SRC when embarking on developmental projects such as the SRC Hostel Project.
