UCC mourns senior lecturer, teaching assistant killed in highway accident

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has issued an official statement following the deaths of faculty member Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang and his teaching assistant, Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, who were involved in a fatal motor accident at the Third Ridge section of the Cape Coast–Accra highway.

In a statement dated Tuesday, April 28, 2026, University Management paid tribute to Dr. Agyemang, describing him as a dedicated academic whose contributions to teaching, research, and service significantly impacted the university community.

“The late Dr. Agyemang was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning at the University of Cape Coast. He was a highly respected member of the University’s academic community, known for his dedication to teaching, research, and service. His invaluable contributions and presence will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” the statement read.

Management also highlighted the achievements of Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, noting that he was a National Service Personnel at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning who distinguished himself academically during his undergraduate studies and was adjudged the overall best graduating student in the department.

“Mr. Amoadu-Asmah was a National Service Person who graduated from the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, UCC, in the previous year. He distinguished himself academically as the overall best graduating student of the Department,” the statement added.

The University extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and called on the public, particularly the media, to exercise sensitivity and caution in reporting on the incident.

“Management and the entire University community extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. The University of Cape Coast appeals to the public, especially the media, to be circumspect and sensitive in their reportage,” the statement concluded.
