The University of Ghana Students Representative Council has admonished students to complete their academic registration in time ahead of the deadline.

This was revealed at the maiden edition of the UGSRC’s weekly press conference which took place at the SRC Union building on Monday, 22nd May, 2023.

The press briefing is aimed at informing the entire students populace and stakeholders over the Council’s activities, projects and some plans in relation to the SRC’s 65th Anniversary.

Speaking on behalf of the council, the UGSRC’ Public Relations Officer, Richmond Jackson urged students to register their courses in haste ahead of the nearing deadline.

He discouraged students from always relying on the SRC for appeals to extend deadlines for the academic registration .

“We want to admonish students to not wait till deadline for academic registration. Don’t wait till Friday 9th June, before you then remember you’ve not been able to pay your fees to register your courses. Presently, we still have almost two weeks ahead for deadline background registration. So you don’t want to keep writing the narrative that when there’s a deadline then we go and seek for extension. It’s quite unusual of premier institutions like UG. So we would want to bring this narrative to an end.”

The UGSRC P.R.O went on to encourage students to seek assistance from the SRC over their fundamental needs in their academic registration.

He is hopeful that by following the directives and achieving the requirements, there will be less students needing to defer over failure to register on time.

“So students who have genuine challenges in terms of being able to secure fundamentals, being able to extend their courses, should fall on the SRC for assistance or get through the right channels to be able to do the right thing before Friday 9th June. We don’t expect students to be forced to defer, except for those who have health or other complications that want to genuinely defer. So the SRC appeals on the students to be responsible in that regard so they don’t fall victim of these narratives.”

Academic Registration is expected to end by Friday, 9th June, 2023. After then, students can no longer register their courses for the semester, provided there will be no extension over the deadline.
